Nostalgia Festival Needs You

08 August, 2009

The recent Jerry Lee Lewis tribute event at the Astor was fine example of Perth Rock’n'Roll at its best. The feedback was glowing and many who attended raved about the show.

But if Perth Nostalgia Festival is going to come close to producing an event along the lines of Wintersun, it’s going to need much more support than the 350 who showed up for the Astor. Ticket sellers complained that it was tough work getting people excited enough to part with $25 measley dollars.

Come on Perth !!!!

Don’t we deserve to have as much fun as  other States? Let’s make Rock’n'Roll great. It takes a lot of committment and effort by those involved. It’s important that EVERYONE gets behind this movement.

  • Get the festival newsletter
  • Attend the fundraisers
  • Become a sponsor
  • Buy tickets early
  • Tell your friends
  • GET EXCITED !

If we don’t, this opportunity will fade away forever. As chairman I know, those who are putting in the work behind the scenes are as passionate and capable as any committee could hope for. But nobody wants to feel that they are giving up their free time to do something that isn’t valued. They won’t do it thanklessly forever.

If PNF fails, there isn’t anyone in the scene who would pick up the reigns again for another try. That would be sad and a great loss to Rock’n'Roll in WA.

But if every dancer takes pride of ownership to make it work it can’t help but succeed. All hands are needed. The question is … what are YOU willing to do?

In2jive Reloaded

07 August, 2009

Yes, the rumours are true. After many months of “umming and ahhing”, Julie and I have decided start teaching again. But don’t jump for joy yet. We are starting off very slowly. Our focus will be to commence with beginners classes. Only when the first bunch of newbies are ready for intermediates will we crank up improver lessons.

This gives us enough time to get our rusty teaching skills up to speed and deliver the value you deserve. In the meantime keep an eye on the website or get yourself on our newsletter list.

Dancing Skeleton Man

In dancing as in other things,  less can be  more. Take a lesson from this little guy. He aint got much to work with. If we are always on the hunt for the next spectacular move that’s going to make us look good, we’re actually overlooking many  subtle aspects that enrich the dance experience. Sometimes it’s what a dancer DOESN’T do that makes the biggest impression.

This clip has been around for a while but I still find it hard to resist. I hope you like it too.
